FIAPO Bootcamp 2017- Bangalore
We just finished with the first phase of FIAPO Bootcamp 2017 - South Zone. It was a 3 day, track intensive event held in Bangalore from 14th July-16th July, and we could not be more proud of the wonderful response! There were a total of 65 people attending the event, who hailed from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Southern India seems to be determined to build a more connected, and a stronger animal rights force!
Scheduled to be held in the North, West and East Zones in the coming months, FIAPO Bootcamp 2017-South Zone was the first of its kind event held in the country. Autonomous and redefining the core values and ethics of the animal rights fraternity, it also established solidarity and uniformity across all levels of the animal rights movement in India with the 4 uniquely designed tracks to suit different needs.
These 4 tracks were:
- ABC and Sheltering
- First Aid and Rescue
- Vegan Outreach and Humane Education
- Legal Enforcement
The whole of the south community present at the Bootcamp, got together to discuss and share knowledge on common issues such as recruitment, fundraising, best practices, group development, communications and current issues such as Jallikattu and the human-dog conflict in the southern states. The community also gathered in smaller groups everyday to discuss issues relevant to their fields of work.
The event was graced by eminent leaders in the animal rights movement of India, like Dr. Chinny Krishna and Mrs. Norma Alvares, who, amongst others, shared their thoughts and ideas with the audience. The fact that activists stayed up working till 2 am, though the event ended at 8 pm in the evening, is in itself a measure of the event success.
