IVF’s Sattvik Fest to Be Held This August for Enthusiasts of the Vegan Lifestyle

Based in a small town called Byndoor, on the Western Ghats in Karnataka, the Satvik Vegan Society formerly known as Indian Vegan Society (IVS) —an esteemed member of FIAPO—is a registered public charitable trust with its main focus on promoting the vegan way of life among people. Founded by Mr. Shankar Narayan in 2004, the society is based on the principle of Ahimsa (nonviolence), with respect to all beings at all points of time.

The original idea behind the inception of the society was to give an identity and a voice to all vegans. In 2007, Mr. Shankar organised the first International Vegan Fest in India, as a part of a series of international fests held in Denmark, which started in the year 1981. 16 countries from across the world took part in this fest and many eminent personalities from various walks of life contributed to it. One of the eminent speakers in this fest was Ms. Nandita Das. From then onwards, the society has been regularly organising a national fest each year and an international fest every three years.

Their 16th SATVIK VEGAN FESTIVAL (SATVIK VEGAN SATSANG) is scheduled to take place on the 4th & 5th of August, 2018 at Sthitaprajna, Yeljit Village.

Dr. Joanne Kong, who is a professor at Richmond University, London, is one of the eminent speakers who is going to be present at this fest. This festival is organised with twin objectives; Firstly, to allow vegans to enjoy a good time in a good place, with like-minded people, and secondly, to take the vegan message to political, religious, and business leaders, as well as to the media and the general public.

Lastly, the society also encourages people to take up veganism by providing them with various awards such as the SVS Vegan of the Year Award, the SVS Progress Award, the SVS Simplicity Award, and the SVS Environment Award.

FIAPO is forever thrilled to have the Satvik Vegan Society as one of its members and congratulates them on their upcoming Vegan Fest and all their future endeavors.
