This Justice Day, India rises to Demand #JusticeForAnimals
Delhi represents the nation in a demonstration calling for ‘justice’ for all animals
A rich tradition and cultural understanding of animals, along with towering scientific evidence have commonly led us to believe in justice and kindness to species beyond human beings. As compassionate citizens, an understanding of the basic right to a peaceful life is well imbibed in the Indian sentiment.
However, the rising trend of farm animal product consumption means and implies that institutionalized cruelty against animals is on the rise and they suffer endlessly and painfully at the behest of the animal agriculture industry.
To stop the exploitative practices that encompass animals, many progressive countries have declared animals as sentient– as beings who lead experience rich lives, with strong social and emotional bonds. Hence, these capacities then need to be considered while making any decisions about the treatment of animals.
Our “Sentience for Animals” campaign, is a demand for Justice for all animals! Spread across 20 cities in India, the campaign has brought thousands of people together, standing up to demand Justice for their favorite species of animals and a push, asking the constitution to confer the status of ‘sentient’ beings to all animals.
Acceptance of sentience in animals means that cruel practices such as factory farming are unacceptable and helps us strengthen the case for stronger rights for all animals.
If you believe in sentience and justice for animals, and would like to add your voice to the growing movement of people who think animals deserve better, sign the pledge below and we’ll add your voice to our campaign for animal sentience!
I, the undersigned, strongly urge the Indian government to fight institutionalized cruelty and declare all animals as sentient beings.
