A Brief Insight into the Case

Three viral videos emerged in the last week of May, where a group of people are seen beating two stray dogs to death and severely injuring two others- https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/viral-clips-capture-killing-of-stray-dogs/articleshow/64391440.cms. The injured canines are being treated in Sanjay Gandhi Veterinary Hospital. According to the DCP of East Delhi, Pankaj Kumar Singh, a case has been filed under IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Such cases of dog-killings and injury have been increasingly reported across the country. People are generally seen getting agitated and often becoming violent against the high number of street dogs in their area.

However, with proper and systematic ABC programme, such incidents of animal cruelty can be reduced and a more balanced human-animal relationship can be maintained.

FIAPO, has tried contacting the district administration of East Delhi who were unavailable for giving any information. We have sent them letters asking them to revive the ABC programme, which time-and-again has been seen as the only effective way to control stray dog population and reduce human-dog conflict.
